The Jarvis & Humanscale base are similar in form & function.  Both bases will serve you well, the decision between the two is most like choosing between a Ford and a Mercedes.  

The are similar in these ways:

• They both function the same way
• The both are guaranteed for 5 years
• The both require some degree of assembly (the Jarvis base requires more)

There are different in these ways:

• The Jarvis base is imported from China
• The Humanscale base is made in the USA with best-in-class German motor technology
• The Humanscale base has a safety sensor to prevent the table from bumping into objects when height is raised or lowered
• The Humanscale base is certified to UL962, ANSI/BIFMA X5.5, and BIFMA LEVEL® 3 (considered "commercial grade")
