ROMI Care Guide

Caring for your ROMI furniture

Proper care of your furniture will keep it beautiful for years to come.  Please adhere to the following guide for beautiful longevity and to maintain your warranty.

Setup

Treat your furniture extra gently for the first 2-3 weeks in your home. You can begin using it immediately, however, please keep in mind that the finish can require up to 21 days to fully cure/harden. During this time, please be mindful of the following:

  • Monitor arms, printers, or other desktop fixtures may imprint the finish - especially if clamped in place before the finish is fully hardened. You can minimize this with blotters, coasters, or any nonabrasive pad/cushion that will distribute the weight of the fixture.
  • Use a mouse pad or desk blotter. While the furniture's finish is durable, moving a mouse over the desk surface for 8 hours x 5 days a week will create a visible, dulled wear area. You can avoid this by using a mouse pad or you may decide to accept this as 'natural wear' and occasionally use (a recommended, as per below) furniture polish to renew some shine.
  • Be very careful with rubber bumpers and the adhesives on felt bumpers.  They can contain chemical plasticizers (an organic chemical meant to soften plastics and rubbers) that can migrate into your finish and create discolored spots.

Care

Be especially careful with solvents, for instance; canned air, felt or rubber bumpers (specifically, the adhesive backing), or harsh cleaners may contain solvents that can "embed" in the finish and leave a cloudy area or permanent marks. While avoiding these things, we do recommend that you:

  • Remove dust with a soft, clean, water-dampened cloth. Dust particles can build up on your furniture over time and may scratch or dull finishes if not removed regularly.
  • Remove body oil, fingerprints, cooking fumes and smoking residue with mild soap and water. These contaminants will not harm the finish, but they can accumulate on surfaces and dull the original luster.
  • As with all fine furniture finishes, avoid using furniture polish, cleaners or dusting sprays that contain silicone, alcohol, ammonia, solvents, and anything acidic. Exception: We have successfully cleaned with Clorox wipes.
  • Clean up water, alcohol, and food spills in a timely manner and use place-mats & coasters to protect the finish.
  • Avoid excessive exposure to direct sunlight, high temperatures, high humidity or extreme humidity changes. These can damage furniture and finishes.
